NATIONAL MUSEUM OF ICELAND // 2019
The geographical characteristics of Iceland have defined its cultural heritage and society through the years, making it genuine and peculiarly unique, triggering inspiration throughout the generations.
The new identity for the National Museum of Iceland utilises a custom headline typeface, which includes four historical typefaces. The typefaces are inspiring glimpses from Iceland’s cultural heritage: Fuþark runes, Fraktur or calligraphic manuscript lettering, the ornamental Höfðaletur (Head letters), and sans serif typography, used from the 19th century to the modern-day. The typographical system works almost as an educational puzzle, inspiring participation and sparking curiosity about Icelandic culture.
